Frequently asked questions

What is FinX?

FinX is a source-available personal finance tracker for Android and the web. You record income and expenses, organise them with categories, sources and targets, set monthly budgets, and track savings goals. The dashboard then shows your net worth, spending pace and budget health in one place, so you always know where your money is going.

Is FinX free?

The Android app is free in Local mode, with no account. Self-hosting the source-available server is free too, with every Pro feature. Managed hosting at myfinx.app needs FinX Pro, which also adds AI receipt scanning, notification capture and bank sync: 7 days free for new subscribers, then €5.99 a month or €59.99 a year.

Is my financial data private?

Self-host FinX and your transactions live in a database on a machine you own, which nobody else can reach. On managed hosting they sit in one Postgres database in Germany, readable only by your account. FinX shows no ads, and this website runs no analytics. The Android app sends crash reports through Firebase Crashlytics and anonymous events from the upgrade screen, never your transactions. The AI features stay switched off until you turn them on yourself.

Does FinX work offline?

Yes. FinX is offline-first: you can add and edit transactions with no connection, and everything syncs automatically the moment you reconnect, so nothing is lost if you drop signal mid-entry.

What languages and platforms does FinX support?

FinX is translated into 10 languages (English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Chinese) and runs on Android 11+ and any modern web browser, with 5 themes and a full dark mode.

How do I get started?

Install FinX from Google Play and add your first transaction. It works offline on your phone with no account. For sync across devices and the web dashboard, start FinX Pro in the app. Prefer to self-host? Clone the source-available repository on GitHub and follow the deployment guide.

Licence and maker

FinX is source-available under the Apache 2.0 licence with the Commons Clause: you may read, change and self-host the code for free, but not sell it or sell hosting of it. It is built by IT-BAER (Bruno Miglar, Klagenfurt, Austria). Source code: github.com/IT-BAER/finx.
